Careers Education and Advice
The Careers Adviser assists students to explore options as they prepare for life after school. Students are advantaged by being supported individually for four years, which is possible due to the Senior School not being large. The Careers adviser’s role is multi-faceted and includes motivating, informing and resourcing students in their studies and career pathways and assisting them in identifying skills and God’s calling on their lives.
The Covenant College Careers Program includes:
- Encouraging students to consider who God is and his calling on their lives and incorporating these considerations into their decisions about career pathways.
- Job Testing to identify work categories a student is most suitable to, based on their interests and abilities, and researching post secondary pathways including education and training and employment opportunities.
Assisting students to link post secondary pathways with their 3 year VCE Program. - The Individual Career Pathways Program - students have Individual consultations with the Careers Advisor during their four years in senior school to research and develop an individual career plan. Prerequisite subjects and ENTER scores, Further Education applications and work transition processes are covered in this program.
- Year 9 Careers Education Program - “The Be Real Game”.
Students play adult roles to learn many aspects of real life they will soon face as adults, such as pursuing further education, finding work, earning money, budgeting and planning for the future. The game teaches them to assess personal strengths and weaknesses and to evaluate job satisfaction. - Year 10 Careers Education Program - Work Experience and Careers Research
Students participate in a one week placement at a chosen work place providing valuable vocational experience and education. In class students complete compulsory OH&S training and are awarded a general and industry specific OH&S certificate. Another focus of this program is to undertake a number of careers research activities.
